What is an open MRgFUS operating room?
In our center, we offer a unique concept of an open operating room, which allows patients and their relatives to be part of the process.

The patient is told in which cases to press the procedure stop button. However, lying alone in ignorance and focusing on sensations does not promote relaxation and only heightens the senses.
We understand this and therefore allow relatives to be with the patient at this important moment. This way, the patient doesn’t notice how time passes, and the procedure is already completed.

Patient contact during the procedure
The MRgFUS procedure is unique in that during the treatment, the patient is in the MRI room, while the neurosurgeon and neurologist are in the control room at the device console.
During the MRgFUS procedure, constant contact with the patient is necessary. For this, there is a window into the room with the patient, and according to the equipment instructions, the patient is given an emergency stop button and instructed on when to press it to stop the focused ultrasound treatment.
When the team leaves the MRI room to perform calculations and conduct treatment, in other centers, the patient is left alone with their sensations in the noisy MRI room.

We are the first in the world to implement the concept of an open MRgFUS operating room, so that every patient feels safe and can communicate with the team throughout the procedure. This allows for better results and reduces the risk of complications.
As a doctor, I was used to rushing into the ICU with my coat trailing behind me, overseeing every detail of my patient’s treatment to ensure nothing was missed. But one day, I brought a loved one to another hospital, and the ICU doors closed in front of me. I knew there were good doctors there and I trusted them, but I remember that feeling of helplessness and uncertainty. I decided that in our center, the patient’s relatives would not experience the same feelings.

The role of relatives in the MRgFUS treatment process
According to our rules, with the patient’s consent, the patient’s relatives can:
- be among the team, from where the operating room is visible,
- can enter the control room, express their concerns in a proper manner,
- can offer assistance,
- can be next to the patient in the operating room and hold their hand during the procedure,
- can participate in the discussion of tactics, for example, whether to continue the procedure or stop in certain cases
