Vyacheslav Stepanovich Buzaev – Founder of Interventional Radiology in RB
Vyacheslav Stepanovich Buzaev (12/05/1947 – 04/12/2012)
The doctor in whose honor the medical center was built was a cardiac surgeon. He was born on December 5, 1947. Early in his career, he performed open-heart surgeries. At that time, surgeons made a large incision in the chest with a scalpel, reached the heart, connected a heart-lung machine, stopped the heart, and repaired it openly.
Then doctors learned to affect tissues through a skin puncture. This was called endoscopy and endovascular surgery. This can be called the second stage of surgery, when incisions were replaced by small openings. Vyacheslav Stepanovich was one of the first to participate in this transition. He was the founder of the interventional radiology school in the Republic of Bashkortostan, performed the first coronary angiography, the first coronary artery stenting, the first emergency endovascular treatment of acute myocardial infarction, and the first endovascular operations for congenital heart defects in children for the republic
All of this was no coincidence.
- First, his mother was a kindergarten teacher and taught him to love children by her example. He became a pediatrician. The habit of pediatric care extended to adult patients, and he did not allow the possibility of causing pain.
- Secondly, he inherited a true warrior’s character from his father—a military man who fought in several wars and passed away early due to the burden of his wounds. Such masculinity is indispensable for those bringing fundamentally new solutions to people on this challenging path.
- Thirdly, his first education was related to aircraft engines, which allowed him to approach cardiac surgery philosophically, deeply understanding the physics of the heart. He loved what he did and improved every minute
Upon learning about the existence of MRI-guideded focused ultrasound neurosurgery for the treatment of movement disorders such as tremor, Parkinson’s disease, and dystonia, we decided to do everything to bring it right here, at home, and make it another asset of Bashkortostan and Russia. It represents a new transition in medicine to the third stage of surgery, moving from incisions and punctures to completely non-invasive treatment. We decided without the slightest doubt to associate our Center with the name of Vyacheslav Stepanovich Buzaev.
The ideas that Vyacheslav Stepanovich conveyed to us about transforming medicine to prioritize the patient, painless treatment, compassion, honor, continuous development, the successes of the homeland, and approaches to nurturing future generations of doctors became the foundation of our center’s philosophy

“I still remember his eyes,” – a patient about V.S. Buzaev

Additional examination was needed, which they couldn’t conduct there because they didn’t have the necessary equipment. So, […]
Buzaevs and Stent // Evening Ufa. 31.03.2009
/by Viktor TremonovDynasties in the medical field are not uncommon. But for a father and son to, figuratively speaking, share one heart is rare. Why do you operate as a team with Igor Vyacheslavovich? After all, this is, no matter what, double the responsibility—as a father and as a teacher.
