Book “MRI-guided Focused Ultrasound in Neurology”

Book “MRI-guided focused ultrasound in neurology “

The first monograph in the Russian Federation dedicated to the treatment with MRI-guided focused ultrasound in neurology and neurosurgery.

Written by a team of pioneers who introduced this method in the Russian Federation, thereby providing Russian patients with Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor, and dystonia access to non-invasive MRgFUS treatment.

Publishing Enterprise “ATMOSPHERE”. Moscow. 2024

MRI-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) – a unique innovative technology for the treatment of extrapyramidal movement disorders and other nervous system diseases, which holds a special place among modern methods of functional stereotaxis. Through MRgFUS, precise targeting of a specific point deep in the brain is achieved by focusing multiple ultrasound beams directed at the target from an external emitting device

The non-invasive nature of the technique, the absence of anesthesia, and the need for a sterile operating room allow us to say that thanks to MRgFUS, the line between conservative and surgical neurology is effectively erased.

Despite its youth, the method is rapidly gaining popularity worldwide and is becoming a real alternative for a range of patients to deep brain stimulation and traditional destructive surgeries on the basal ganglia.

In the first Russian monograph on MRgFUS are presented

  • general principles of the method
  • its advantages and disadvantages,
  • principles of patient selection,
  • principles of organizing an MRgFUS specialized center
  • features of performing the ultrasound procedure
  • The experience of using MRgFUS for essential tremor, Parkinson’s disease, dystonia, and other conditions has been summarized

The possibilities of MRgFUS in neuromodulation, opening the blood-brain barrier, and other promising future-oriented directions in neuroscience are also being considered.

For neurologists, neurosurgeons, specialists in radiology
diagnostics, clinical residents, and medical university students.

In this book, there will be answers to the questions:
