Development of AI Technologies in Oncology and Radiology

19.05.2020/by Aleksej Savelev
Cover of the Journal Creative Surgery and Oncology No. 3, 2018

The Industrial Revolution 4.0 occurred largely due to the implementation of artificial intelligence methods. In the past two to three years, artificial intelligence in medical decision-making practice has found real practical application. Tools for creating decision-making systems based on artificial intelligence methods have become commonplace and are accessible not only to mathematicians.  U.S. Food and Drug Administration  (FDA) approved a number of applications for clinical practice, this change affected not only researchers but also practitioners. Most of these applications are used for analyzing medical images, including in oncology, and demonstrate comparable accuracy to a specialist.

qualitative changes that have occurred in the last 3 years in the use of artificial intelligence in healthcare through research on publication trends in the database PubMed

The aim of our research was to demonstrate the qualitative changes that have occurred in the last 3 years in the use of artificial intelligence in healthcare by examining publication trends in the PubMed database.

All article summaries with the keyword “ artificial intelligence” were uploaded into text files from the database  https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/. By summarizing key terms, we classified modern applications of artificial intelligence in medicine. 78,420 abstracts were extracted from the database  PubMed, including 5558 reviews, 304 randomized studies, 247 multicenter studies. Then the typical areas of application were classified.

Interest in the topic of artificial intelligence in indexed in PubMed publications are growing according to the law of innovation development. The number of non-English publications increased until 2008 and was presented in Chinese, German, French, and Russian. After 2008, the number of non-English publications decreased in favor of English ones.

In collaboration with Professor Vladimir Vyacheslavovich Plechev,    Rezida Maratovna Galimova ,   Aivar Ramilievich Kireev, Lev Khadievich Yuldybaev,    Published by Aigul Fazirovna Shaikhulova and Svetlana Herzenovna Akhmerova  the article “Development of Artificial Intelligence Technologies in Oncology and Radiology” in the peer-reviewed scientific and practical journal “Creative Surgery and Oncology” .

В  article  a classification of the application of artificial intelligence technologies is presented
