Bashinform: Ufa Residents – Pioneers in Treating Tremor with Ultrasound

The Ufa Intelligent Neurosurgery Clinic became the first in Russia to perform a unique painless, non-invasive operation without anesthesia for the treatment of tremor. Doctors prepared for it for two years and were able to perform it using MRI-guided focused ultrasound.

The first patient was a 68-year-old man with Parkinson’s disease. He successfully worked as a veterinarian and even performed cesarean sections on animals, but recently the disease limited his abilities as a medic: his hands trembled severely.

Eight doctors simultaneously monitored the patient’s condition and performed precise work. As a result, they achieved the complete disappearance of the patient’s tremor and performed a non-invasive thalamotomy. During and after the operation, the man had no complaints. In the evening, a follow-up MRI of the brain was performed, and no complications were found.
