The Amazing Story of the Photograph of the Doctor Who Discovered Parkinson’s Disease

This is not a photograph of James Parkinson, who first described Parkinson’s disease

21 December 200 years ago, James Parkinson, the great neurologist and archaeologist, passed away. However, this is not that James Parkinson. This is not him either. And this is definitely not him.

James Parkinson was born and lived his entire life in a small house belonging to his father, who was also a doctor. There was a pharmacy downstairs, and they lived above it.

Now the house has been demolished, and another stands in its place. The first camera was invented a few years after his death. Therefore, we still do not know what he looked like.

A caricature from 1789 has been preserved, presumably depicting Dr. Parkinson. Most often, the lighthouse keeper on the island of Tuscany, James Cumine Parkinson, is mistaken for Dr. James Parkinson.

Here’s the amazing story of the first discoverer of Parkinson’s disease
